Bookbinding

A paper drill, cutting machines, bookbinding linen, yarn, a round corner machine: in the workshop, in addition to the printing presses, you will find all kinds of materials for binding books and making boxes. In the bookbinding course you will learn how to make a simple book in several ways. The course is designed so that you can continue working at home.

In the beginner’s course you will learn the basic techniques for binding a book. From the cahier stitch to sewing on bindings. In the advanced course, participants come up with their own project. That course is open to people who have taken the beginner course at GWA. A weekend workshop is equivalent to a 6-evening course.

Japanese binding:
Very suitable for bringing together loose sheets in a beautifully decorative way. Using the paper drill and inventive binding techniques.

Cross stitch/French stitch Decorative: leaving the spine open shows how the book is bound.

Binder Sewing on tapes: the method to produce a truly beautiful, hardcover book.

Weekend Bookbinding Workshop

A bookbinding weekend is a workshop for beginners. In two days you take the entire basic course taught by Thekla Ahrens. Japanese binding, bandsetter and French binding.
