Woodcut
Woodcutting, like linocut, is a relief printing technique. The texture of the wood requires a different cutting method and the result carries the special characteristics of the wood texture.
During this course you will work with various methods, including eventually the “lost material technique. In this reduction technique, all the printing passes are cut out of one sheet of wood with different chisels. This requires careful preparation: the print run and colors must be determined in advance.
Artist and designer Irian Schuur (insta: @irian_schuur) studied at the Minerva Academy in Groningen and did an internship at the famous Hatch Show Print Shop in Nashville. In this course, he shows how this particular letterpress printing technique works. Get a feel for the material, learn to handle the special gouges and create an image that speaks.
